News About Upcoming SCARM 2.0 & Licenses Upgrading Policy

The current year 2024 is coming to an end, so it is a time for recap and unveil the plans regarding SCARM for the next 2025.

The development of the next major version SCARM 2.0 already begun earlier this year and it is expected to be ready for beta testing during the spring of 2025. If the tests are successful and everything is OK, the official release will be published probably in the beginning of the summer of 2025.

Because of this, here I am revealing the official Licenses Upgrading Policy for all new and existing registered users:

Аll new users, who purchase a license for the current SCARM v. 1.9.6 (or potential newer v. 1.9.x), will get a FREE upgrade to SCARM 2.0.0 when it becomes available.

• Аll existing users, who already purchased a license for the previous SCARM v. 1.9.5, will also get a FREE upgrade to SCARM 2.0.0 when it becomes available.

Аll other registered users, who purchased a license for SCARM v. 1.9.4 or earlier versions, will get a 50% discount for upgrade to SCARM 2.0.0 when it becomes available.

Аll MTS Power Edition extension users, will retain their rights for use of the paid simulation extension also in SCARM 2.0.0 when it becomes available.

• Аll registered users, who do not want to upgrade to SCARM v. 2.0.0 by some reason, will retain their SCARM 1.x.x licenses for use with the last published (or any previous) SCARM 1.x.x version prior to releasing of SCARM v. 2.0.0. 1)

1) The latest SCARM 1.x.x version will not be updated anymore after releasing of SCARM 2.0.0.

Here is the place to remind that one SCARM license covers single PC and the payment for it is one-time purchase (per major version) and not a subscription. All minor versions (updates) are supplied free of charge for the registered users. The license key is transferable and can be easily uninstalled and moved to another PC when that is needed. In case of a PC failure or other obstacle which prevents license transfer by the user, there is an option for emergency license reset – just write an e-mail to and request emergency license reset stating the license purchase Ref No and it will be processed in 1-2 days. The emergency license reset can be performed once per year.

As an overview, the new major SCARM 2.0 version is expected to include many long-awaited and several completely new features plus many other optimizations and improvements in the existing functions, user interface, memory handling, simulation engine and even more. While it will have a lot of new and rewritten program code, SCARM will remain still simple and easy to use and will be able to work well even on older PCs, supporting at least Windows 7.

Unfortunately, the native Mac OS support will be delayed again and will not be ready for the next year, but at least Linux/WINE emulation will continue to work relatively good on both Linux and Mac OS systems when SCARM 2.0 gets ready.

So, enjoy the model trains layout design with the current release of SCARM and get ready for upgrade to the much better and more advanced SCARM 2.0 which should be published during the summer of 2025!

  1. Hi Milan,
A new release sounds superb but I am surprised ( although pleased) that there is no upgrade charge.
I am still using Scarm regularly. I have designed a proposed G1 indoor layout for our railway club – a simple end to end “shunting puzzle” layout.
I am also designing a prototype layout which depicts the Porthmadog Harbour Station on the Ffestiniog railway in 009. I have used a scale plan in background to set out the track and have then developed detailed plans of the baseboard structure in Fusion 360. Using the background function I have imported the design as a background to check clearances for turnout actuators. Really good so far. I’ll let you see the files when they are complete.
    Best regards.

  2. Thank you, Mike,
The free upgrade is offered only for new users who will make their purchases now, and for existing users who purchased license for SCARM v.1.9.5 onwards. All previous users, who want to upgrade will still need to pay, but only 50% of the price for v. 2.0.0 license. I think that these offers are good and fair and hope other users to like them too.
As for new projects, I am looking forward to see these new files.

  3. ng. I LOVE SCARM!!! I would like to request a feature for an upcoming version. When creating figures, it seems the only way to set length and width attributes is upon the initial creation of the figure by dragging the mouse appropriately. If the length and width (the “A” and “B” values) of the rectangle need to be modified, the only way I know to do this is by selecting the figure and dragging the “drag handles” until the status bar reads the desired dimensions. This is very difficult, hit and miss at best. The same is true with circles (the D value)

My suggestion: please add these attributes to the properties dialogue box, so that figures can be modified, and their exact dimensions set by editing these properties there, as can be done with Vertical Position, Height and Color.

    Possible?

  4. I would really like to see this feature as well. In my opinion, it’s the most important feature missing from the product. I moved from SCARM to Anyrail primarily for accuracy in that it allowed positioning of pieces, shapes and baseboard perfectly by adding control points with specifically identified xy coordinates. I would love to see this so I could move my layout back to SCARM and finish the design with exact positions.

  5. How can I find what new features will be in the 2.0 release.

  6. Hello Bill,
The list of the v. 2.0 features is quite long, as some of them are entirely new, others will be improvements of existing functions and there will be also optimizations of code behind the scene, which should make SCARM faster, more convenient, and even more stable than now. That’s why I am refrain of publishing it (the list) as it may undergo changes and I don’t want to give promises that will not be able to fulfill. When the code is ready for beta testing, I will probably publish the initial list with confirmed features.

  7. Hello, I’m planning mainly for G gauge / LGB. Unfortunately, I’m missing the tracks and switches from Thiel. https://thiel-gleis.com/en/
It would be great if these were included in Scarm 2.0.
    Greetings, Thomas

  8. I have been a SCARM user for several years. My last upgrade this week didn’t go well. I am currently stuck in the demo versions. I have downloaded the new key and attempted to install several time, but unsuccessfully. I want to upgrade so I can finish my latest project.

Any help would be appreciated, feel free to email me directly if desired.

I love the program and looking forward to V2.0

  9. Hello Milen,
Im using SCARM since a while and i like it. As Thomas Brill mentioned before im still missing the Thiel tracks and espacial the switches. Please add them for V2.0

How do I find out which version I have activated my license with?

How can I understand your license policy upgrade? If I am actively using V1.9.5 or higher then I have a “current” license or did I have to get a license from version 1.9.5 or higher for the first time?

    Thank in advance!

  10. May the library of Kato-N-UT (Unitrack system) when also include the missing bumper #20-046 (62mm Bumper TypeA) and/or #20-047 (62mm Bumper TypeB)?

  11. Hello Milen Peev,
there were many additional tracks in a hidden section which I did not notice. I am sure I did not hide any, but maybe the latest update put it there.
    Thank you!
