Refreshed Design and New Features in the SCARM Registered Users Area

Today, the new, refreshed design of the Registered Users Area pages on the SCARM web-server was rolled out, featuring more detailed information about purchased SCARM licenses and extensions. Below you will find a summary of all the new and improved functions.

The new design focuses on easily distinguishable areas for the pending (ready for activation) licenses/extensions and the already activated and installed modules on users’ PCs. Each area has its own color – green for the pending licenses, gray for the installed licenses and blue for the PC on which the user is currently logged on. Here is one example of an already registered license:

1) For the PCs with already installed licenses, there is a new information label describing the device hardware on which the license is registered and locked. It is located below the device name and shows the PC manufacturer and CPU vendor brands. This will allow the users to know on which device the given license was last activated.

2) Each module now reveals details of its type (license, extension, library, etc.), compatible SCARM versions, the options for upgrade, and the purchase and last activation dates.

Note: The actual license upgrading will become possible after the release of the upcoming new SCARM v. 2.0 and will happen automatically for all users who are eligible for a free upgrade according to the SCARM 2.0 Licenses Upgrading Policy.

3) A new column was added with help and resources, containing links for installation and activation instructions (for the pending modules) and troubleshooting (for the already registered licenses). Last but not least, there is a new button for user-driven license Reset & Unlock, which will enable everybody to perform a reset in case the license cannot be uninstalled in a proper way from SCARM’s “Help” > “Uninstall license(s)” feature or if the PC/laptop where the license was last installed is broken, stolen, lost, etc.

Note: The license reset can be performed only once per year (365 days).

I hope that the new design will be better and more useful to all registered SCARM users.

  1. I’m super pleased with SCARM; been using it for years now.
The free version of it was so much better and easier to use than other software I explored, so I got the license and was off and running.
Over the years, there have been only a very few things I have encountered that for some reason, I couldn’t grasp on my own. The support team was excellent and helped me out and I was good to go in no time.
Just a couple of the features I really like:
1> The grade percentage calculations are updated in real time as you raise or lower a point in the track
2> How easily the ‘drag’ of a piece or an entire section can be done.

If I mentioned everything I liked about SCARM, you’d think I’m doing an advertisement for them, so just let me say it is definitely worth the few bucks to get the license. It’s an awesome design program!!

  2. Hi – getting used to SCARM after getting frustrated with AnyRail, and so far so good. But one question – how do I create a helix that does not start at elevation 0? I would like the entrance to the helix be raised, say 70mm for n Guage, then climb in 4 loops after that. Any tips appreciated! Thanks

  3. Hello Gerry,
There are two ways for doing this in SCARM 2:
    1) Make a helix using the “Helix” tool from ground “zero” level. Then select the whole helix and use the “Height shift” tool from the Toolbox to raise it at the desired level.
    2) Place a start (entry) track for the helix and set its level, say to 70mm. You can do that either by adjusting track’s heights as described here http://www.scarm.info/index.php?page=help&topic=11 or by use of the “Height shift” tool in the Toolbox and to lift the selected track. Then select the end point of that track (that is already lifted) and make the helix from there.

  4. Many thanks. Makes all the difference when there’s a helping hand about from the developer or support team. Glad I bought the licence!

  5. I have a new email address as supplied on this form. My profile shows my old address but this does not appear to be editable. Please would you tell me how to change it in the profile

  6. Dear Scarm,
I have 2 Scarm software loaded on my tower and laptop. However I have just upgraded my laptop and require to transfer the licence from the old laptop to the new laptop. I have just downloaded the Scarm software but I am not sure how to proceed from there. Can you please provide me with instructions to achieve this as I cannot find any relevant help inside the website?
    Thanks in advance

  7. Today I downloaded what I thought was an upgrade resulting in that I was ‘thrown out’ of my license and was urged to buy one. What happened? And how do I move on from here?

  8. Hello,
I am using SCARM 2.0 and have developed a snag. Once I d/l’ed the software and licensed it…everything was working just fine. In the design area, on the left side of the page, directly under the “Track, Objects and Figures” headings I used to have a description and small pictures of all the different track types and manufacturer’s. These pictures and drop-down descriptions of the items has disappeared.
Might there be a setting that I can adjust that I have not been able to locate so that I can get back the pictures and descriptions of the various tracks..??
Thanks very much for any assistance you may be able to provide.

    Sincerely,
    Don H.

  9. Hello Don,
I am not quite sure what exactly you are talking about.
If you are talking about the “Tracks selection panel” on the left side, it cannot disappear, as it is a permanent interface feature. It can be made wider or narrower as explained here: http://www.scarm.info/blog/tips-and-tricks/quicktip-bigger-images-in-selection-panel/
If the left panel is still there, but it is empty (blank), maybe there is a problem in Windows’ settings. To solve that, try to restart your PC.
If it is about something else, please try to describe it again.

  10. Krijg na update de volgende foutcode:
List Index out of bounds (0)
    SCARM SU code: 11000

Deze foutcode krijg ik te zien als ik een project wil openen.
Wat is dit en hoe kan het worden verholpen?

Heb het programma verwijderd en weer opnieuw geïnstalleerd maar het helpt niet.

  11. I have 2 keys for version 1.9.8 and would like to put them on a new computer. i downloaded one on my new desktop after deactivating from the old computer. Now when i try to open one of my layouts all i get is a message that says my version is obsolete and shuts the program down. I will upgrade later but i would like to finish the layout on this version. I thought I could do that. right now i have 2 keys and simulator and can’t do anything with either

  12. I upgraded to Version 2 now I get the message “I have exceeded ‘the maximum number of items.

  13. I am a new registered user of scarm and I’m sold on the product and tell everyone I talk rail modeling to about it. I have a couple questions and one suggestion.

Suggestion (question): Is there a way with the tape measure to convert to the converted scale (O, HO, etc) so that I can lay out a river, for example, twenty feet using the measuring tool.

Question: I’m learning to use the track heights and scenery heights from some of the questions/answers posted here using polygons. I’m trying to lay out a river and have had some small success using combinations of negative vertical height and/or position. The desired results show up in the 3D view but the color does not appear. I have gotten successful results with positive results in both settings for mountain elevations. Is there a way to do what I’m attempting to get a river bed to show up as a depression in the landscape?

Thank you for any insight… and again for such a remarkable piece of software.

  14. Hello Egbell,
I will consider your suggestion, but I am afraid that it cannot be done in that way, as the Measuring Tape is a specialized tool for measuring, and not for building.
As for your question, there are two dedicated articles about the rivers, lakes and waterfalls – see them here:
How to Create Rivers And Lakes in SCARM
How to create waterfalls in SCARM
Regarding the missing color in 3D – that happens when you apply a negative height to a polygon – it is drawn as “intruded” shape as opposed to the normal “extruded” shape, and that is why the color is not visible in 3D. There is no solution to that, but there are various workarounds e.g. if you want to make a river’s “bed” in the terrain. See also the following article regarding the terrain shaping:
How To Create Hills And Valleys in SCARM.
Hope the above is of help.

  15. Hello.
Why do I get this type of message on some links?
UNAUTHORIZED – This resource is temporarily restricted in your area.

    Thank you in advance.

  16. Hello Gustavo,
Due to heavy scanning/crawling of my website by automated bots, I needed to restrict access to some of the resources from some areas. That restriction will be removed after some time, and access to these resources will be restored.
