If “Check for Updates” feature in older releases reports that there is no newer version of SCARM, download the installer directly from the website. The old release info file may be cached on your PC and it may need some time to expire. If the website also shows older version, press F5 key to refresh it. |
This update comes with several fully-rewritten core routines in order to optimize the memory footprint and to improve the work with very large and complex layout projects. As usual, the new version includes several new and updated track libraries, updated language translations and some other minor improvements and bugfixes.
Notice for the users of old 1.x.x versions prior to v. 1.9.5
Please, upgrade your previous 1.x.x versions of SCARM to the latest v. 1.9.5 in order to get all new features and apply the last bugfixes. The old unregistered versions prior to v. 1.9.5 will be discontinued and no longer supported.

Hi Milen, writting from Mexico City. Quick question, I created 3 layouts on a previous PC, but my new employer will not allow SCARM to be installed in the new computer. Though I have the files, I’d like to know if there is web viewer? I don’t want to edit the files, just see them and even print them if possible. Is there a way to do this? thank you so much. The app is great!

Unfortunately, there is no web-based viewer for SCARM project files.
Note that there is no need for license key, as the free version of SCARM can open, view and print every project, even bigger ones, created in the paid version. However, you need a PC where SCARM can be installed in order to view the SCARM project files.

How do you create custom track libraries? It may sound silly, but I’d like to use SCARM to create interesting layouts for some of the simple plastic and wooden track systems that exist (for example, those associated with Thomas the Train). I would be happy to input all the track geometries myself. It seems like this is something that’s relatively easy to do with XTrkCAD (insofar as anything is easy with that software!), but here the SCARM libraries don’t seem like they can be edited and I’m not sure how to create custom track segments.

Currently, there is no such option in SCARM, but I am working over custom tracks editor and it will appear in some of the next versions of the program.
Regarding Zachary Bond’s recent question, I want to suggest there is a work-around for creating a ‘custom’ track library. I’ve sometimes done this myself to represent GeoTrax and other unique types of track.
Using flex-track that best approximates the size of ‘track’ you want to represent, make straight and curved ‘sectional’ pieces of track with the geometry parameters of your choice. Copy a number of these pieces into a separate layer and off to the side of your layout planning area in a SCARM file. Save this file as a ‘library’ with your ‘starter’ pieces of track.
Turnouts and crossings can be represented with overlapping straight and/or curved sections. Ramp sections can be created by specifying graduated heights on a track section, but beware when joining adjacent sections to maintain correct heights.
When you create a layout using track sections in this file of custom pieces, save any new layout creation as a separate file. Retain the original unmodified file as your ‘library’ of custom sectional pieces.

Please give us a setting to specify screen size and position on open or any thing so you can recover from a Microsoft forced shutdown when SCARM is not full screen on a multi screen setup.
I had multiple SCARM layouts open so I do not know which whido closed last but needed to reconfigure and disable all but one screen to be able to get back into SCARM becasue no edge was visable on open, not the bigest thing but this causes me to lose all ICON locations on my home screen overall almost a hour to get SCRAM and home screen running again,
By the way have tried all the other layout software and this is still the best cant wait for next major upgrade that will include customizable track sections (Hint Hint)

Another question, I have “built’ some Lionel postwar accessories by using your figures library. Is there a way to share them here with others.
Last question, does your program work with Windows 11? Micro Soft keeps wanting me to do an update to it.

1) Yes, that is true – the free version of SCARM can open, view and even print any track plan, created with the paid version. However, if the plan is bigger than 100 tracks/objects, it cannot be edited or saved in the free version.
2) Sure, you can do that – just share the file where these figures exist with your friends and they will be able to copy them and paste onto their own SCARM layouts and track plans.
3) Yes, SCARM works just fine on Windows 11.
Hi Milen. I was having issues with printing and contacted Parallels for help. They said my problem was with Windows 7 and I needed to upgrade to Windows11. That apparently fixed the printing problem, but I had to reload SCARM. I purchased the Power Edition many years ago, but I don’t have a license key to reload it. Please tell how to do that.

How can I reinstall all track libraries? When I did the initial install I only installed HO libraries and now I need have also 00 and N. I tried to reinstall the program but allways show the initial libraries downloaded.

All track libraries are always installed, however, some may got switched off by the user from the settings. In order to get back all installed libraries, go to “Tools” > “Settings” > “Tracks Panel” and place a check marks on all required scales in “Selected scales” list:

Having great difficulty trying to do anything with V1.9.5. Have created plans but all it wants to do now is update to V2 which I do not want/need. Similarly cannot swap files with a friend in 1.9.5. Its getting very tedious!.

This version is obsolete and not supported anymore. However, if you want to continue to use it, you can do that, but only in registered mode (with a license key). So check that you have a license and that it is installed and recognized. To do that, start SCARM and open “Help” > “About” menu command – you should see your name at the bottom of the About dialog. If you do not see it, then SCARM is working in Demo mode and that’s why it wants to be upgraded. To fix this, use “Help” > “License actication and installation” in order to login into your account and download and reinstall your license key.
