Several users reported that after upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the current version of SCARM (0.9.22) is not able to start properly.
When SCARM starts in Windows 8.1, it may show the following error message:
After that, the libraries are missing and the selection panel on the left is empty:
It seems that upgrade to Windows 8.1 affects the default printer configuration in Control Panel. That reflects negative on SCARM and causes a problem during its startup sequence. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program will not help.
Workaround Solution
To cope with the problem, go to Control Panel, open the Printers applet and check the configuration of the printers in your system. If there are printers, but none of them is marked as default, select one and set it to be default. If there are no printers at all, select Add Printer, then add some device (no matter which producer and model) and set it as default. That should fix the problem and SCARM should run normally under Windows 8.1. The problem should be finally solved in the next release of SCARM.
