This article features two SCARM projects of a Christmas track plans with Lionel O-scale Fastrack pieces for assembling around the Christmas tree.
Both layouts are intended to be build around a tree, located next to a wall or in the center of the room. They are suitable for continuous run of a Christmas train and also for playing with the children around the tree.
1. Lionel Christmas Train Layout #7
This is a medium-sized simple track plan which allows running of one train in the figure. The Christmas tree may be placed in the center (as showed in the picture) or in one of the circles.
See more details about this example layout and get the track plan from the layout’s page on SCARM Layouts & Track Plans site.
2. Lionel Christmas Train Layout #8
This is another proposal for a medium-sized track plan with more options for playing. The Christmas tree may be placed in the center (as showed in the picture) or in one of the side circles.
See more details about this example layout and get the track plan from the layout’s page on SCARM Layouts & Track Plans site.

SCARM is awesome!! Thanks so much for putting it together. I am using it to create a new Christmas tree layout. We have three trees (one large one, and then one for each of our two small children). Is there a way to change the size of the tree in these models, so I can get a better representation of their relative sizes? The little trees are about a third the size of the large tree.
Hello Hank,
I am glad that you like SCARM
To place smaller tree on the layout do the following: open the layout, select Lionel-G or other G-scale library in the tracks list, then select “Objects” > “Trees” in the list and use Fir-tree L or Fir-tree XL from the selection panel. These should be about 1/3 of the size of the main tree.
Thank you for the response, Milen. For future reference if anyone else reads this, I had some trouble with finding these large trees at first – the trees I was adding were very small! I didn’t realize that the lists of various Objects are standard across all the libraries, and choosing a library will change the scale of those Objects. So choose the G library to get the largest scale, and then go to the standard Objects lists!
I have used SCARM to create a layout that we have put together for our children – it accommodates three trees and a large area for presents without interfering with the track, and is extremely simple with no switches or crosses (for better and worse). The only problem is that there is a 1/4″ gap that I can’t figure out how to close in SCARM, though in real life it wasn’t an issue. Would you want this file to share with others? I didn’t see a way to upload it myself.
Hello Hank,
Yes, send me the layout file to
. And I will be happy to see a pictures of the real layout with the real trees when ready
