Description
Here is what Robert says about his layout design:
"My plan is to build my layout in our seldom used garage. The reason for the L-shape is there is an 8x10 foot machine shop that my father-in-law built in the northeast corner of the garage, which is one reason it is seldom used for parking cars, but there is plenty of space for my layout. I wanted to be able to run two trains simultaneously in either direction, and I wanted a large switching yard to store unused rolling stock and to put freight trains together. Most all of the buildings and track-side objects came from SCARM projects that other folks have designed. I used my ingenuity and imagination to incorporate the buildings and objects into my layout, e.g., the cattle ranch, the Army Maintenance Depot, the ore processing plant, Majestic Fiber Optics factory, etc. I built the Circle-K fuel and convenience store mainly because those types of businesses are very popular and abundant here in the United States, and I felt it was a necessary addition to my layout. Also, I wanted my layout to support both diesel and steam locomotives for train power, hence the turntable and roundhouse facility. After designing my [prospective] layout, I have spent a lot of time building objects to share with other SCARM users and fans. I am really enjoying the challenges and I get a lot of satisfaction from using SCARM and it's capabilities."
