Model Train Layouts & Track Plans

Home Compact Railroad Layout in HO scale

This is a proposal for a small layout in HO scale with two concentric oval lines. The track plan features 2-track main station, small train stop, sawmill industry with storage shed, logging camp branch line and a village in the center.

The layout allows many different scenarios. In example, the outer line can be used for short passenger trains, passing through the main station, the tunnel, the bridge and the stop at the back right corner. The inner oval is dedicated for the freight traffic between the lumber mill and the logging camp. The track plan is designed in a way so two “engine-drivers” to be able to play on it without interfering and without risk of a train crashes. However, a proper powering and wiring are required in order to be able two trains to be controlled independently and DCC operation is most suitable for that job. The turnouts are intended to be electrically controlled by use of under-table servo motors or other suitable devices. The uncoupling is designed to be manual, by use of dedicated uncoupling tracks, but there are same size electrical uncoupling track pieces as well. The buildings can be any suitable factory-made items or can be custom build to fit the locations, proposed on the layout.
