Description
Prototype
The SBB class 203 (former V100 of DR, East Germany), is a four-axled diesel-hydraulic locomotive for various duties, modified by Alstom and currently operated by the Cargo division of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB-CFF-FFS) in Switzerland and Germany.
The initial design features a four-axled diesel locomotive with a central driver's cab and hydraulic transmission designed by Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg. The current vehicle is fully upgraded variant, with modernized cab and controls, reinforced superstructure, improved trucks with better suspension and completely new engine and transmission with power output of 1380 kW (1850 hp). The locomotive is equipped with railings from all sides and new steps for comfort and safety of the personnel when performing repairs or shunting/switching operations.
